Back in NYC. This time, for the most perfect 'Christmas in New York' - thanks to the Algonquin. From the time you arrive, you are greeted with courtesy, care, and a CAT. My goodness - the attention to detail at this hotel is second to none. The front desk is organized, attentive, and friendly. We were treated like celebrities from the moment we entered the building. Our room was clean, well-appointed, and extremely comfortable. And the hotel and the location... just a dream come true. We've always wanted to stay at the legendary Algonquin - and now that we're here, we have no regrets. This legendary place is living up to its everything it is known for. Come for the cat, stay for the excellence. Thank you Algonquin! We will be back!

I wish I can give a higher mark, considering the historic building, atmosphere, and friendly cheerful service, from GM and reception. The main issues are around the fact that they simply don't have bar or restaurant open, and renovations stripped off the character of the place. No Blue Bar, Round table and nothing but the room. The room itself was small, but rather tasteful. The bathroom was way too small, and showed its age... It was quite noisy at night, despite the fact that the room was on a quiet side. Not as good of noise isolation as Sofitel next door. I shouldn't complain, since it was comp stay, but I am simply trying to be objective. Location is quite good BTW, away from low class Times Square and even lower class Penn Station and Port Authority bus terminal. Will give it another try, if the opportunity arises, to check on updated amenities.

The location is perfect, and you could argue that alone is worth most of the $700/night we paid. The room however was a bit small and there was only a shower in the bathroom, no bath, and both the bar & restaurant were closed at the time. It's a nice old hotel, but not $700 nice.

The Algonquin, as we knew it, is no more. Of course the staff is still great but, it just doesn't have the same feel. The ambiance is gone. During COVID shutdown the hotel went through a remodeling. The wallpaper is gone, the dining area is all but eliminated, Blue Bar is being used as a meeting room with the bar (not yet open) being moved into what was the dining area. You won't recognize the reception desk. The lobby and dining are just ugly. It looks like any other chain Marriott. I used to think that it was the ambiance that made it worth the price but no more.

We recently stayed here (weekend of November 12th) after the hotel recently re-opened on November 1st. It is an older boutique hotel that has a luxury historic feeling inside. The location is perfect to see the various sites in NYC!
However, there are a few things to be aware of before arriving.
-There are no amenities offered here for guests. You are purely paying for a room. Being a Titanium elite member, we were given points, late check-out and an upgrade to a suite on 1 of 3 nights.
-We were given a suite on our last night so my partner could work from the room comfortably, which was very much appreciated. The suite was gorgeous and huge for a New York hotel room. However, we had to keep calling everyday about possibly switching and we couldn't get an answer until a few hours before that we could move rooms.
-At the moment they are not selling food or drinks of any kind to their guests and no room service. It is quite disappointing they don't have, at the minimum, tea or coffee in the rooms or in the lobby to offer in the meantime.

Overall impression: when the hotel is fully running, I think it will be a nice and cute place to stay. However, with nothing being open and no amenities offered for its guests, the price should reflect that. At the moment it is not worth the price for what you get.

More About Algonquin Hotel Times Square, Autograph Collection

Built in 1902, and rich in history, the very name Algonquin Hotel Times Square evokes images of smoky cabaret singers, Nobel laureates, famous authors, and international movie stars mingling within the same environment. It all happened here… Robert Benchley, Dorothy Parker, the Algonquin Roundtable, Douglas Fairbanks Senior, John Barrymore, Helen Hayes, Gertrude Stein, Sinclair Lewis, William Faulkner… These and more made the Algonquin a name synonymous with New York culture.

For over 100 years has been known as a gathering place for New York society. It still is. It is also still a luxury hotel that sets a standard for others around it. Of course it's been updated a bit since its origin as it now offers complimentary Wi-Fi for high-speed Internet access, speakerphones, flat screen TVs, data ports and other nods to current technology. But it also still has the touches of old complimentary newspaper, plush terry robes, and the service for which it is well known. On your next trip in the Times Square area of New York, plan a stay at the Algonquin, and see it continues to be popular after over a century.
