We stayed at this hotel for 11 nights while visiting family in the area. I was quite displeased with the overall service at this hotel:Report
Major issues:
1. No heat - we stayed in early October and it did get chilly overnight, and the heat did not work. We called multiple times on multiple nights to resolve this issue, no one ever came. At one point we were informed that as the outside temperature did not get below 50, the heat did not have to be turned on. As the average night at this hotel was around $400/night, I would not expect Marriott to meet the same standard as a cheap NYC landlord
2. Housekeeping was spotty - our shower gel dispenser was empty and never refilled. We had to call and they brought us soap bars. Then, the next time housekeeping came they took all the soap bars, didn’t leave any new ones, and still didn’t refill the dispenser. They also never cleaned or replaced our drinking glasses
3. Doormen were essentially useless; everyday we would come and go (with a stroller) and maybe 3 times total did they actually hold the door open for us; all the other times they were too busy talking to each other or just staring out the window. On our check out day we had to wait about 20 mins for them to get our bags (which I understand can happen during busy checkout times, this is not a problem for me), but the guy who came up to our room didn’t end up actually placing the bags into the car we ordered, the doorman did. This doorman complained about the heaviness of the bags and actually made our taxi driver get out to help him, then lingered for a tip. I had already tipped the original bellhop who brought the luggage down and informed the doorman I already tipped him, doorman then had the nerve to tell me “tips aren’t split”. I don’t see how that’s my problem, and anyway I’m not tipping for your poor attitude and complaining about the weight of the bags and forcing the taxi driver to do your work
Minor issues:
1. Room is outdated, straight from 2005
Pros:
1. Speedy elevators
2. Front desk staff is very friendly
3. Great location within walking distance of multiple subway lines, Brooklyn bridge/Dumbo waterfront, and Cobble Hill
Overall, I suspect this hotel is riding coattails as the only well established hotel in the area but I would not recommend staying here nor would I stay again
What a joke. When we arrived, the escalator was broken. Then we had to wait 10 minutes for the front desk person to sign into her computer because it didn’t work. Low-flow showers that can barely wash a human. Instead of breakfast, you get a voucher to buy disgusting and expensive food at their bar. It should be noted that my wife is a platinum member. Tiny 50-cent yogurts coat $5 and the line was 30 minutes long. You even have to pay for bagels and coffee. Talk about dystopian late stage capitalism. They even have the audacity to add a tip area, so it was more than the voucher for two egg tasteless eggs dishes and a coffee. If this is what Marriotts are turning into, avoid them at all costs or post a one-star review so all the greedy psychopaths who make these decisions change their mind.Report

First the high’s. The front door staff is great. So is the bar staff, when it’s open. Very helpful in every interaction.Report
Now the lows. The bar is closed all afternoon on Saturday and Sundays until 4:30pm. You can’t watch a college football game or even the Giants play a game on Sunday. I’ve never encountered that in a Marge Marriot, in major city before. The room layout is nuts. I’ve never had a room further from the elevators. Sure it was quiet, but I had to walk for 3 minutes to reach my room. Also my room was kind of dirty. Very obvious drink rings, that were sticky to the touch, on the nightstand. My mini fridge looked liked it had been rolled down a hill. It was covered in dents and scratches everywhere and the inside had obvious, spilled liquid stains. Pretty hard to miss this stuff and if they missed the easy stuff what were the chances that the hard stuff was clean? Finally at check-in they told me my total was $800, then at check-out I learn they didn’t bother to mention resort fees (for the closed bar?) and taxes and my real total was $1,300. I know there are always taxes and resort fees just include them when you say “your total for this stay is…”. Never staying here again.
No room service. I asked for ustensils and they refused to bring it to me.Report
Also you have to ask for bottles of water each time you need.. the good thing is location and the size of the rooms
