James Towne Houses Cooperative was established as a non-profit, non-subsidized corporation whose specific purpose is to provide affordable moderate cost housing for its members. Members are stockholders in their own housing corporation. Buying a share known as a membership “stock” certificate entitles the purchaser to one unit. The major contract between our co-op and a member is the Occupancy Agreement. This document gives the members exclusive right to occupy a Townhouse “unit” and to participate as a member in the operation of the co-op through representative democratic control.
