We have been using Five Star Hotels for our girls trip for 10 years. We are currently staying at the Capitano In Destin, FL and it has been the worst ever.

Elevator not working
Air conditioning wasn't working
Broken door handles and locks
Very dusty, stained furniture, cobwebs, dirty chandeliers, etc.
Mildew smell in upper quarters
Remote backs missing (so you know they haven't been cleaned)
shrubs and over grown brush, grounds totally unkept
…which after calling they came and attempted to get things in order.
But the worst is we have SEEN a couple of large mice and droppings throughout the house.
This was reported and a request to send someone and they sent someone, but he only vacuumed up the droppings though-out the house. No attempt to set traps to address the rodents.?

The maintenance crew come were unvaccinated and did not wear masks.
So if these issues are important to you,
This may not be the place for you. This was important to us. We were vaccinated, boostered up and tested.

Mare Moderno.
We (17) rented Mare Moderno the week of Thanksgiving. This was our 2d time renting through Five Star Beach properties. Our 1st rental home was phenomenal. The service we received was awesome and our family still talks about the fun we had on that summer vacation.
This trip was slightly different. Mare Moderno needs a little TLC. My biggest complaint was the larger oven was inoperable (which made reheating turkeys and hams plus side dishes challenging) and while the picture depicts seating for 22, we had 14 indoor chairs. Which meant we had to eat standing up, or outdoors. This would work in a warmer temperature. We didn't notice this until Thanksgiving dinner. The kitchen in my opinion is not well stocked with appliances, the coffee machine is outdated, no mixers to make a cake. The bedrooms are large yet they lack warmth. No lamps anywhere in the home or chairs in the bedroom to sit on to put on shoes, etc... some of the furniture was stained. A day prior to our departure the identical home next door was power washed, no one informed us to move our cars and the residue from the power washer left spots on our vehicles. The contractor agreed to rinse our vehicles off when we bought this to his attention.
The home is beautiful and large. We had plenty of room. The proximity to the beach was great. We enjoyed bike riding too.
Would I rent with Five Star again? Absolutely. Perhaps not this particular property but I would definitely use Five Star Beach properties again.

Our family stayed at the Verona house during Fall Break. The house is absolutely beautiful with any amenity that you can think of. It has the best stocked kitchen of any property that we have ever stayed in. The short walk to the beach, the beach chairs, and the pool looking over the ocean was amazing and so relaxing. Just what our family was looking for!!

We did have air conditioner issues on the day we arrived (a/c was completely out upstairs). It was close to 80 degrees upstairs so I called Five-Star. Their on-call maintenance guy was at the house within a few hours. Unfortunately that didn't fix the problem and we were without air for 4 of the 7 nights. Anthony and his team (Emily and Taylor from the office and Todd in maintenance) were so helpful in trying to resolve our a/c issue. They were in contact with me or available to talk to me each time I called. They sent maintenance out at night to bring in-room a/c units to try and help cool the rooms down. We finally got the a/c fixed upstairs on the 5th day and it worked great the rest of our vacation. While I wish we didn't have the a/c problems, Anthony and his team did everything they could to get it resolved quickly. Thank you so much for that!!!! That great service and wonderful location is why I will definitely book with Five-Star Properties again.

We had several issues with the home we rented through Five Star but they were prompt, addressed the issues and made things right in the end. Very professional to deal with. Would rent with Five Star Again.

I would give them 0 stars, if I could. Last year they said the house would be built in time for Thanksgiving, and it wasn't. Our family (Padgett) moved the reservations to this year, and we had to find out for ourselves the house was sold! They didn't even bother to call us to book a different house or give us a refund, we found out on our own. When we confronted them, they only had 3 bedroom condos, when we needed at least 4 bedrooms, and they offered to look on VRBO for us… which we can do ourselves. Do yourself a favor and AVOID this company at all costs.

Micah, Thank you for reaching out. I can understand how frustrating it is to be in your position and honestly, this is one part of the business we do not look forward to. However, it is important that we clarify. Due to the arrival of Covid in 2020, the builders were postponed and construction of the complex was halted. As the management company, once we were notified we reached out to notify all reservation holders. Your party agreed to move the booking to 2021. Being a new complex, most units were owned by the builder. However, this year he started selling them. The new owners decided to make it a private residence and removed it off of our rental program. We absolutely understand the inconvenience this caused your group. We also wish we had better options to offer you but we didn't. No company in this industry is immune to properties selling and leaving their program and these conversations don't get any easier. Kindest regards, Your Five Star Team

I sent this directly to five star in three email addresses last month and got ZERO response:
The door to the outer top deck needs to be replaced. Additionally, the toilet on the first floor is coming very loose and the outside grill is in need of some drip pan cleaning.
I did appreciate the packaged towels, but in all that were there, only three washcloths and hand towels were among them.  We'd also like to be able to clean the floors of sand a little more, but the nylon broom was really ineffective.
We really enjoy the beaches in Destin and hope to return with some other properties.

After 9 years of using this service, I'll be looking elsewhere.
