Waldo, Maine was settled in 1811, and incorporated on March 17, 1845 from Waldo Plantation, named for nearby Waldo Mountain, which in turn was named for General Samuel Waldo, the proprietor of the region. The town is located in Waldo County, just northwest of Belfast, accessed by Maine Routes 7, 131, 137, and 203.
