Category Description: Solano was created in 1850, and has a county seat of Fairfield. Father Francisco Solano baptised the chief of one of the local tribes, calling him Chief Solano. General Mariano Vallejo requested the area to be named in honor of this fierce fighter who had ruled over a majority of both land and tribes between Petaluma Creek and the Sacramento River.
