The Galatian church was grappling with problems involving purity of practice and doctrine, and some Judaizers (Christian Jews) claiming that in order to be saved, one had to first convert to Judaism and follow the Law. In his letter to the Galatians, Paul dispelled that idea and explains how Christians are free from Judaic laws and customs. He also defends his authority as an apostle and rebukes Peter for wavering. He teaches in this letter that true holiness comes by walking in the spirit and producing the fruit of the Spirit.
