The members of the Family Pygopodidae are commonly called Flap-footed or Snake Lizards. They get their common name from the lack of forelimbs, with the hind legs being mere flaps or, in some species, completely lacking.

Many sources include the Pygopodidae (Flap-footed Lizards) genera in the family Gekkonidae, due to the close relationships. Other sources combine Gekkonidae and Pygopodidae in the infraorder / suborder Gekkota.
