Trading cards are traditionally associated with sports and include an image and a short description. Cards dealing with other topics are known as non-sport trading cards. They are often similar in size to playing cards, and often used to play games, which has led to the development of collectible playing card sets.
Trading cards are often confused with "trade cards" which were cards produced to advertise businesses, or enclosed with a product - cigarette and tea cards are typical examples.
