Tinnitus is the perception of ringing in the ear. Although it is considered a condition, it is actually a symptom, often of ear infections, allergies which affect fluid drain, foreign objects in the ear, or wax build-up. Sometimes it is caused by advancing age or side effects from various medications. But the most common reason for tinnitus is hearing loss caused by noise.
