Also known as hepatic cancer, liver cancer is cancer that starts from one of the largest organs of the human body — the liver. For a case to be considered as liver cancer, the cancer growth should originate from the liver instead of merely spreading into or migrating to the liver (liver metastasis).

Liver cancer appears in various forms. The most frequent of which is the hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). There are also cancers that arise form the blood vessel cells in the liver and are referred to as hemangioendotheliomas. Other liver cancer forms (rarer) are mesenchymal tissue cancer, sarcoma, hepatoblastoma, cholangiocarcinoma, angiosarcoma and hemangiosarcoma, and lymphoma of the liver.

Various symptoms of liver cancer exist and they include jaundice, abdominal pain and mass, weight loss,hepatomegaly or abnormal liver enlargement, anemia, emesis, and fever.
