ACOA is an acronym for Adult Children of Alcoholics, an organization created to provide a forum for individuals who seek help or recovery from the effects of living with or growing up in an alcoholic family or a family driven to dysfunction by alcoholism. It is an apolitical, non-religious, and self-supporting organization financed by donations from members.

Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACOA) was founded in New York city based on the 12 steps and 12 traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous. Over 700 groups affiliated with the ACOA exist worldwide, majority of which are located or operate within the United States. ACOA meetings are held and led following the Alcoholics Anonymous way. Being a support group, ACOA provides a sense of community among members and serves as a source for practical help in obtaining everyday interpersonal and coping skills. Emotional sobriety is the primary goal of the programs conducted by the organization.
