NERO, an acronym for New England Role playing Organization, is a live action role-playing game (LARP) played in the United States and in Canada. Due to a legal dispute, the name now refers to two games or organizations: Alliance LARP (formerly called NERO Alliance) and NERO International. NERO International is regarded as the original NERO group while Alliance is the breakaway faction.

NERO can be traced to earlier gatherings held by Ford Ivey in rural Massachusetts, under the names "Weekend in the Woods" and "Weekend Warriors." The name "New England Role playing Organization" was adopted in the fall of 1989 following growth in membership, activity, and game conceptualization. A September 1991 feature article published by Dragon magazine is considered to be a significant factor in bringing the NERO popularity to national level.

The split into NERO International and NERO Alliance (which would eventually be renamed Alliance LARP) came in 1998 after a legal dispute involving the licensing of the NERO name and rules.

NERO can be described as a boffer style LARP that makes use of simulated combat with padded weapons. Players assume the role of individual characters possessing specific abilities that determine what they can or can not do in the game particularly during combat.
