My experience here was fantastic! The staff and nurses were very friendly, helpful and informative. Dr. Urban was very kind and understanding of my situation and helped me work through it every step of the way. I only had some dental work done but I would recommend him for any facial surgical situation you may have.

This was a very unprofessional experience. Dr. Urban's office was recommended for the TMJ pain and discomfort that I've had for 8 years. I've visited this office once when I was 13 for wisdom teeth removal, and from what I remember the experience was fine. Unfortunately, this was not the experience this time at all. I waited 40 minutes to even get pulled into a room, and afterwards Dr. Urban seemed flippant towards my problems with my jaw joints. He didn't ask many questions and didn't examine my jaw within the first conversation; he wanted me to get an x-ray to see what was going on. Once I did, he said that he didn't really see anything on it- that I should follow the advice on the paper I was given. This is advice that I already had been given by my dentist as a general outline, before he told me that he could recommend me to a specialist. The reason I came to a specialist was to look at other measures to prevent further damage on my joints as it has gotten a lot worse over the years.

Since I didn't need surgery (something I'm obviously hoping never to need), it didn't seem like he cared at all. I asked about mouth guards or mouth splints as solutions because I had seen online that TMJ specialists could fit you for them to relieve pain and further joint damage while you sleep. He carelessly breezed past the "$30 mouth guards you can get from Walmart" that could help, before telling me they do Botox, that I could get it done today, for a particular jaw muscle to help relax it. His tone was extremely condescending and smug as he repeated the price to me twice, stating that I'd have to pay out of pocket.

He examined my jaw for about 30 seconds, asked less questions than the x-ray technician did, and told me that the only thing he saw on the x-ray were early signs of arthritis. This kind of problem is the reason I came in: I'm only 20 years old and don't want this problem to be exacerbated to the point of needing surgery or suffering with arthritis earlier than necessary. Therefore, I asked him how to make sure this doesn't get worse, that I definitely wanted to look at other methods before considering injections, and he just said to follow the paper. Specifically, in regards to having jaw pain while I eat, "If it hurts to chew, just stop."

What kind of advice is that? Am I supposed to begin liquid dieting? The reason I came in is because it is a daily problem that I have and my condition seems to worsen. This was the worst experience that I have ever had with a medical professional; never have I felt so dismissed and ignored. I walked away from this appointment with a lot of time and money wasted, and with no new information on how to deal with my TMJ discomfort and pain. He said to come back if I'm still having problems in a few weeks, and if they don't hear anything, he'll assume that it's because it's working. The reason will be because of his uncaring and dismissive behavior. One thing I will mention: thank you to the women who did my x-ray and took my payment, they were the only welcoming and friendly faces in the entire building.

I am very sorry you feel the way you do. My diagnosis and treatment recommendations are still the same. Again please follow our given treatment recommendations that you discussed. Also as you mentioned and contrary to a non-caring clinician, please contact our office as we recommended if you still do not have resolution to your problem within a few weeks. All patients are given the ample opportunity to ask questions regarding their care. Patients are responsible for their care by voicing questions and concern during a consultation. If a patient does not voice concerns or questions during a consultation, it is very difficult for a provider to resolve their problem. Your above written concerns should have been mentioned and addressed when you were given the opportunity to ask questions during your consultation. No questions results in no discussion. Not all patients are recommended surgery. Sometimes the best solution for a complex problem is profoundly very simple and not complex. Reading and following our recommended NON-invasive treatment protocol for your described condition, we have a very high degree of success that has very little cost and morbidity to the patient. Our practice goal is to provide the highest standard of care with the most cost effective therapy and with the least amount of harm. We followed this highest standard with your care. As you mentioned and following the standard of a caring practice, we would still would like to see you again after you read and follow our prescribed treatment plan for two weeks.
