Filthy. Run-down . Understaffed. I felt like I was in an old psychiatric facility. I gave a 2 because inspite of the conditions my nurses were kind and knowledgeable!

Security was rude and made a scene while my aunt was upstairs dying. Officer Peterson decided to yell and embarrassed my aunt, cousin and father. My dad decided to go down and speak with officer Peterson and he dismissed my dad and made another security officer take care of my father. NOTE: my family had permission to be with my aunt because we was going to take her off of life support. Officer Peterson proceeded to call his superior and made yet another scene and kick my 80 year old gram mother that is in a wheelchair and morning her daughters death. They threated my other aunt and told her that if we make a scene no one would be allowed to see my aunt at all. AS SHE WAS DYING! My family did not make a scene and left. The amount of extra stress and anxiety they put us through like we were not already heart broken from watching my 50 year old aunt die. I plan on speaking with the superior of security. If this is how the security is ran I am embarrassed for them. There are families going in and out of that hospital heart broken and how officer Peterson treated us was ridiculous.

Listen I know quite a few people aren't fond of hospitals neither am I. I had a cleaning of my knee and was admitted to a med/surg floor. I can't say enough good about the staff. Despite being understaffed and against all of the difficulties of day to day work, on the majority they were all very professional and showed quite a lot of pride in their work. I would like to commend the following employees for their "rockstar" professionalism… Maddie, Ashley, Beth, Brad, Joe, Paige and Brandon. Each department has their own issues however they ALL treated me with respect and were super helpful. The food, I thought was really good. Kudos to the Dietary, Transports, Housekeeping ,Surgeon's, Doctors and Nursing. I wouldn't have wanted to be recovering any where else.

This place has gone downhill over the years. Customer service is almost non-existent. I am glad Pittsburgh has AHN as an alternative option. I will be switching to all AHN services.

Took someone to this emergency room due to their doctor is there. It was a terrible experience . The resident Dr McQuade was so high on his high horse it's a wonder he didn't have a nosebleed up there. He was very rude, no compassion at all. Then his attending came in Dr Gonzales what a rude, uncaring, wicked witch of the hospital. She was rude, made fun of my friend laughing at him like he was stupid.. it turned out, they did NOTHING to help him It's a shame all these #1 teaching hospitals and none of them freaking care..

There are nicer hospitals. UPMC has been & continues to be renovating the original hospital updating floor by floor, room by room as well as brand new construction of hospital buildings. When they are all done I'm sure it will be very nice. It's nice now but they still have a large portion of shared patient rooms & private patient rooms w/ shared bathrooms vs. totally private patient rooms w/ private bathrooms. Personally I do not go to UPMC b/c of the accommodations but rather b/c for my medical issues they are home to the best trauma neurosurgeon in the world. The Neurosurgery department & team as a whole is one of the best in the world. UPMC as a whole is one of the best hospitals in the world annually b/c of there unbelievable doctors. Now UPMC is also a teaching hospital associated w/ Univ of Pitt Med School so that can also be a positive or negative depending upon you the patient & your feelings. I've been all over to the quote on quote best for my issues experiencing numerous surgeons & hospitals across the United States. I travel over 1,000 miles to receive treatment at UPMC & will only let my UPMC surgeon perform surgery on me. Many of their patients travel long distances as I do to receive their care. This speaks volumes to me. And to be honest after surgery I'm not real concerned about how nice my room is. What's important to me is the care I receive & the professional individuals providing the care. I've recommended UPMC to anyone & everyone w/ major medical issues. And as far as the surroundings are concerned they continue to get better, nicer, & newer incorporating cutting edge technologies. I've been in trusting my life w/ this hospital & medical professionals for 12+ years now & have no hesitation about continuing to do so.
