The person who came was very personable and explained things well.
We were charged $89 and change for him to come, test our older system for low freon and confirm to us, yes, it's a bit low, and no, they can not charge it up again because that's against the law to recharge it more than twice.
Then we were presented with an estimate of over $13K to install a new system.
I did some research and admit, I did not read ALL of the EPA regs. Did not see anything about it being illegal to recharge a system with less than 15 pounds of freon. If anyone can point me in that direction, I'd appreciate it and will have learned.
We called someone else and they put exactly one pound of freon in. That HVAC guy said it's not necessarily time to replace yet, but if we did it would be under $8K.

Edit:
I appreciate Top Gun's response to this review.
Top Gun is prompt in coming when asked.
Justin was courteous and respectful.
I understand the fee for checking the system.
About recharging the system, I was told by Justin 'the EPA kind of strangles us on those things. I can't afford a ten thousand dollar fine.' Nothing was said about policy.
The lower rating is because I felt we were not told the truth about the EPA fine.
Our system is old and does need replacing. I did feel as though we were being told it would have to be now.

Hi Lori, thanks for your feedback. We’ve been out several times to charge the system with R22 our records show. Our $89 diagnostic is a standard fee in our industry. We are not the least expensive company in town because we believe in delivering the highest quality and best value for our installs. We understand this means not everyone is going to purchase from us. Which is fine because there is a free market and many contractors to choose from here in DFW. We install what we believe is the best quality equipment. Which is also the most expensive of the brands. We aim to install durable long lasting systems, not ones that cause breakdowns and failures in the first 5-7 years. We make it a company policy not to fill systems that are 15+ years old a 3rd time. It’s your home and you alone make the decisions about it. We can only offer guidance and informed opinions about best options for moving forward. We will never coerce or use scare tactics, just educate on matter of our profession. I don’t know of any statement by the technician Justin that were made to the effect of it being illegal. However the cost of most all refrigerants have 4X in last year. We want to make sure every customer is informed about not only short term solutions but long term ones as well. They’ve already begun to phase out R410a as well.

This review is a little late. Last summer my wife and I were selling our home in Colleyville. We’d just had another AC company come to our home to do a seasonal inspection and maintenance. A day after their visit one of our units stopped working…which was also the day before our home was hitting the market. We contacted the AC company and explained that they were there the day prior and now our unit wasn’t working and our upstairs was now 90 degrees. They told us it must have been lightening and they could be there in 3 days. Well, there hadn’t been a storm in weeks and selling a home with a broken AC unit doesn’t exactly put you in a strong negotiating position.

A co-worker recommended I call Top Gun as he’d recently had a great experience with them. I called and I’m pretty sure I had the owner on the phone. I explained our situation and the current temps inside the house. He put me on hold for 5 mins and when he returned, said I can have someone there in 90 mins. 3 hours from the time I placed the call to Top Gun they had replaced the capacitor and rebuilt the capacitor housing which had been damaged when the previous one blew. Top Gun understands something many of their competitors don’t…customer service is what keeps people coming back. We don’t live in TX anymore, but if we did, Top Gun would have a customer for life.

Our AC hasn't been cooling well and our bills have sky rocketed so we called Top Gun because of their 5-star rating across the board. Jonathan Riddle came out within a few hours. He was very courteous, patient and professional. Our house was cooling off in no time. We had an estimate for a new system by the end of the day, which is very reasonable. We will definitely be giving this company our business for any future heating/ac needs. Thank you, Jonathan, for being prompt, professional and awesome!
