I highly recommend Attorney Mark Mellor, Riverside, CA, both for his skills as an attorney and his ethical approach. I am writing this review instead of my friend, the plaintiff, because he holds the founder of his former workplace in the highest esteem in a industry with a small number of firms, and wishes to honor the original company. These legal problems arose with the new leadership.Report
I personally witnessed Attorney Mellor's empathy, superior knowledge, and remarkable determination (bulldog) at key junctures during the lawsuit, because I helped the plaintiff gather his evidence to turn over to the law offices.
Attorney Mellor won a complex civil case litigating the rights of a shareholder in an employee-owned company. I have no training in the business/legal aspects, so the following description is generalized. The plaintiff faced a hostile reassignment of his share ownership that involved breach of contract, workplace harassment, and false valuation of shares. Mark Mellor returned to the plaintiff his true share equity plus interest, along with reasonable damages. He also prevented defamatory behaviors by the defendant that were impeding the plaintiff's job search.
Attorney Mellor won his case even though the pandemic had caused a majority of these smaller type of cases to fall through the cracks, and was able to win the case at the mediation level rather than going to court. Attorney Mellor also managed the plaintiff's fees judiciously.
The plaintiff was highly-respected for his work, both within the firm and among clients. However, in the battle to take over the employee's shares, overreach by the defendant (presumably to consolidate shares for leadership) included attempting to block the plaintiff's ongoing employment search at the time, threatening the economic security of his young family.
Mark Mellor assembled a small but powerful team. We joked that the defendant perhaps expected the plaintiff to hire a "notario" to review the accounting books. Instead, Attorney Mellor made sure the plaintiff hired a well-respected forensic CPA for the audit. The defendant's attorneys faced legal and accounting experts that evaluated: evidence from the firm's own books revealing huge discrepancies in the value of the shares; terms of the original employee-owned business contract; correspondence from the defendant revealing evidence of harassment and corporate malfeasance, etc. Attorney Mellor also assured that the plaintiff would not face further employment interference by the defendant.
Given how backed up Inland Empire courts have been for several years, made much, much worse because of the pandemic, Attorney Mellor delivered the best possible results the plaintiff's family could have hoped for. Also, all efforts were made to preserve viability of the company for the good of the other employees.
