Worst check in experience ever. Had to book here for kids soccer tournament. Arrived at hotel at 3:50 after a long day and was notified room was not ready. Did not complain because check in policy says 4pm. Left phone number to the front desk and then went out and come back at 4:30. Room is still not ready. No apology or sympathy. No reason given. Not busy at all. As of 4:40 now still waiting and no explanation. I have never experienced anything like this in any Marriot before.Report
Update: found manager and finally in the room at 5pm. No apology or anything. Worst hotel experience ever!!!
The rooms were nice; however, forget about service. It was impossible to be seated for breakfast so I had to go without eating. Also, the front desk clerk was rude when I asked about their convienence store.Report
College Park Marriott is a hotel and conference center located on the western portion of the University of Maryland campus. The hotel is situated in two buildings with a driveway in between. I was supposed to stay at the hotel for three nights, but I was bumped on my first night from my room and had to stay at a different hotel. I did not get a good explanation of what happened, but I decided to let bygones be bygones.Report
The hotel interior is very modern and upscale, yet seems to have a colonial style about it. It is very clear that a lot of effort was put into the hotel's design, which feels chic yet traditional. The room that I received was in the larger building, which houses the hotel restaurant and conference rooms. It was a bit on the cozy side and not very big. However, the room interior was lovely. The bathroom particularly stood out.
As for hotel amenities, I tried out the restaurant which was just okay. I liked the burger and Smith Island cake that I got for takeout, but found the experience dining in to be lackluster and slow. The fitness center is worth a mention as it is very large for a hotel gym with plenty of machines and weights available. If you are visiting UMD, this hotel is a great place to stay on campus based on the hotel facilities available as well as its design.
DeJuan at check in totally made our stay! We were in the area for a sporting event at UMD and needed a place. We are very last minute and many of the hotels in the area were sold out and couldn’t accommodate our family. We took a gamble and stopped by and at check-in DeJuan exhibited so much empathy and put my wife at ease. He explained to us that the hotel is currently undergoing renovations and thus the system wasn’t showing up to date room availability. He was able to turn our stressful situation into a much more relaxing one, and doing so with ease and professionalism at the same times. ||Our stay here was pretty amazing. The staff at the commons were all so friendly as well.||Overall we will definitely be back for future events at the University.Report
