Descriptions of our Dental Services:

Crowns

Crowns look like your own tooth. They do not come on and off. Made of 100% porcelain or porcelain fused to metal. Porcelain is very similar to glass. Crowns are primarily used to restore teeth that are missing a lot of tooth structured. This can be for many reasons.

Deep Cleaning

Prophylaxis is a regular cleaning. Scaling and root planning (SCRP) is a more involved cleaning. Individuals diagnosed with Active periodontal disease need SCRP. Periodontal disease is when bacteria in the mouth cause bone loss. Sometimes there is gum loss along with the bone loss. Other times there is bone loss, but the gum stays high on the tooth. The long distance between the bone and gum causes a pocket. A tooth brush can't fit into a pocket. Now more and more bacteria grow causing more bone loss.

Implants

An implant is used to replace a tooth or multiple teeth by ""implanting"" a new tooth into the bone. While implants are relatively new, they are regarded as one of the best and strongest ways to build new teeth. An implant has three parts:

The fixture: the base of the implant which is surgically placed in the bone.

The abutment: a post that screws into the fixture.

A crown which is installed over the abutment and looks like the natural tooth.

Partials

A partial denture is a removable appliance that replaces missing teeth. It is held in place by your existing teeth. It is important that these teeth be healthy in order to support your partial; often they may need treatment prior to making the partial.

Complete Dentures

A complete denture replaces all of your teeth. An upper complete denture covers the roof of the mouth and usually has very good retention. A lower complete denture also replaces all of the missing lower teeth. A lower denture never gets as good retention as an upper denture. The lower denture is in the shape of a horse shoe.

Implant over dentures

A complete denture can be improved by adding implants. A minimum of two implants are required although more implants will increase the stability of the denture. An implant over denture offers the following benefits:

The denture is much more secure in your mouth because it is anchored to the implants.

the denture is smaller

Many denture patients suffer from bone loss (resorption) because the body detects that teeth were extracted and the bone is no longer necessary. Bone loss can lead to facial collapse which reduces the function of the denture. Implants stimulate the bone and deter bone loss.

Fillings

The traditional filling material is a silver amalgam. Amalgam fillings have been around for many years and are very durable. White fillings (composite) are a composite of resin filled with glass particles. Both materials are very strong and acceptable materials for a filling. The main differences between the two types of fillings are that the composite filling matches the tooth color and costs a little more. The cost is attributed to the greater cost of the material and the time it takes to place a composite versus an Amalgam filling.

Night Guards

A night guard is used to protect teeth from grinding or clenching. Teeth are usually only together 20 minutes a day. Individuals that grind or clench often have their teeth in contact for hours a day. The teeth of a “grinder” or “clencher” are wearing and enduring forces that are 5 times as greater than normal. This can mean that the teeth will last a fifth the amount of time as regular teeth.

Often the teeth of a “clencher” or “grinder” are diagnosed with crack tooth syndrome, broken teeth, or severe wear leading to the need for root canals. A night guard comes in two forms. One is a called a Conventional and comes in the shape of a hoarse shoe. The other is an NTI. The way your teeth come together and your specific habit decide which type of Night Guard will work best for you.

Six month smiles

This is used to move teeth to make it more esthetic. This is only for cosmetic purposes. It is not used to adjust bites. It is limited to adults. Clear brackets and elastics along with white wires are used. The treatment is shortened to only six months.

Tooth whitening

Tooth whitening is a process of making your natural teeth whiter. There are two

materials used for this. The over the counter whiteners do not work as well as the dentist material due to the potency.

Veneers

Veneers are restorations used to change the appearance of teeth. Very little tooth structure is removed to enable the boding of the veneer. These can be used to alter shape, color and spaces. The veneers are made of porcelain and custom made in a lab. This material does not stain over time.

Hybrid

Hybid prostheses used to replace all missing teeth. The prosthesis is supported by implants and cannot be taken out by the patient. The benefit is that it feels more like your own teeth.

Bondings

Bondings can also be called white fillings. The formal name is composite. These are esthetically pleasing because they are white. They actually bond to the tooth. They can be sued as fillings after decayed is removed or to esthetically reshape a tooth.

Bridges

Bridges are like multiple crowns in a row. They are used when teeth are missing. This is an option when, the teeth next to the missing tooth is missing a lot of tooth structure.

Botox

A non surgical treatment that can reduce wrinkles.

Invisalign

A procedure that straightens teeth. Clear braces.
