SANA Psychiatric Associates

I’ve been putting off writing this thing for like 6 months but dammit these SOBs will not stop exceeding my expectations. I have a myriad of issues (bipolar disorder, early onset dementia, shift-work disorder) and a bad habit of sticking with providers long after I’ve outgrown them. I was resigned to in-the-box thinking that ascribed every single issue I have to… wait for it... cannabis use. Degenerative brain disorders are a qualifying condition for a medical exemption in Texas. I know. You’re jealous. Anyway, I had an “old school” psychiatrist that probably saw Reefer Madness when it was on its first run in theaters. No imagination. No creativity. No innovation. Just “that would go away if you stopped the weed.” I finally got tired of that doctor that 100% of the time knows what’s going on in your body better than you do, damn whatever it is you think. Enter my guy Nelson at SANA Psychiatric Associates. What a breath of fresh air. It was like switching from muzak to jazz fusion. Don’t get me wrong. He wasn’t like “hey, let’s smoke a bowl, bruh”. Far from it. But when he figured out that the topic was a non-starter, he bleepin’ moved on, used his expertise, and worked with me to figure something out. Being bipolar, you know drama follows me. I can’t help it. My provider adapts… and doesn’t stare at me disapprovingly over her glasses. And don’t get me started on the ladies at the front desk. I needed some paperwork filled out once, asap. I made the request at like 8:30a on a Tuesday. By 11a I received a call saying the paperwork was ready to be picked up. They weren’t even expecting Nelson in the office to see the request till after lunch but they knew I needed it and they made it happen. I can’t say enough great things about this staff as a whole. Well, the one’s I’ve interacted with anyway. They can't all be employee of the month, so your results may vary.

Im very satisfied with the care I’ve gotten here at SANA. After years of going to doctors that wouldn’t provide the help I needed, I found this place by the grace of the universe, which exponentially improved the quality of my life. If you’re looking for mental help and WILLING to accept help, this is your place.

I’ve had a great experience with SANA Psychiatric Associates. The entire staff is welcoming, professional, and truly cares about their patients. Karina Villegas, in particular, is outstanding—compassionate, knowledgeable, and always attentive to detail.

Nelson Chiakpo was the best mental health provider I have had. He was straight to the point and always made my appoints quick and easy. The office ladies are also very sweet and on point! Would leave more stars if I could!!!
