More About Robbins Seth W MD

I provide psychotherapy, both long-term and brief, and psychoanalysis, as well as psychiatric evaluation and medication consultation and management. The strength of my practice is that I combine my psychiatric and medical skills with my in-depth psychological training as a psychoanalyst, to provide accurate diagnosis and appropriate psychotherapy / psychoanalysis, with medication when needed. This includes evaluation of possible interaction between medical and psychiatric conditions, as well as medication selection and management. For patients who need both psychotherapy and medication treatment, this integrated treatment is safer, more thorough, and more efficient than having a separate psychiatrist and psychotherapist. However, I also see patients who do not want psychotherapy, or have a psychotherapist that I collaborate with, so this means that I see some patients that I treat only with medication.

My strength as a psychotherapist is that I am warm, compassionate, interactive and engaging, and I work in a way that has depth and is also pragmatic and solution-oriented. My extensive training in psychoanalysis (I am a certified Jungian analyst, this involved many years of rigorous training, beyond what many people who claim to have some training in Jungian psychotherapy have) allows me to work at a deep level with a wide range of problems and personalities. My strength as a psychiatrist is that I am knowledgeable about diagnosis and medication selection, and I am very careful in my prescribing practices. I inform patients of the rationale, and the strengths and weaknesses of each medication option, and help them identify a medication treatment that they are comfortable with. Please note that although my psychotherapy orientation is Jungian, I have extensive training in psychodynamic psychotherapy, contemporary psychoanalytic psychotherapy, trauma, and relational psychotherapy as well as couples therapy.
