OKUKAN is a very welcoming dojo. There is no pressure and you get as much as you put in. I find a lot of joy in practising a martial art in a recreational way, being able to learn about it at my own pace. I'm a full time dance teacher, so I find very meditative to not be in charge of a room and just focus on my body and how it moves, learning a completely different language. If you are interested in learning Shitoryu Karate, I recommend!

This dojo is a great place to practice karate. The atmosphere is comfortable and safe, the people attending are nice and supportive and all levels from beginner to intermediate-advanced are represented. More importantly, the sensei is a real professional dedicating her life to karate and her students. She embraces the true values of this discipline by being encouraging, respectful and always remaining humble despite her great capabilities. Moreover, Meg promptly responds to any enquiry via e-mail and she is always there at the office willing to help with a smile on her face. Being passionate about the Japanese culture, I also appreciate that the dojo itself reflects the ambience and the etiquette that one would expect from it. It is the ideal place if you are thinking of starting this fulfilling sport.

Highly recommend Okukan and Sensei Sandra. It was really important to us to find a female led dojo for our daughter and son and we are so grateful to have found Sensei Sandra. Sensei focuses not just on the mechanics of karate, but on the work ethic, attitude and discipline of the practice while keeping it fun. We really appreciated Sensei's deep connection and focus on each of the students in their own right.
