Best Karate ever!
I can't speak highly enough of this wonderful Dojo and the balance created by Sensai Sandra, Meg and the students. My daughter loves it and has developed so much strength, respect, dedication, and self-belief under Sensai's guidance. I'd give it 6 stars if I could!Report
We had a great experience at Okukan Karate, we would highly recommend.Report
Horrible staff especially the coordinator. Don't know how they run a business being so rude and aggressive. Not to mention they disclosed my personal information about my payments online in another review. Absolutely disgusting and unprofessionalReport
Okukan Karate is great for kids. Teaches karate skills, discipline, team work and the importance of being physically active. A great space for kids to learn balance, my son really enjoyed the challenges he was faced and being able to learn to deal with them.Report
My child has been part of this Dojo for the last few years. We are moving so sadly having to leave. We have had a brilliant time. Sensei Sandra is a wonderful teacher and the Dojo is both lovely and professional. We couldn’t recommend more highly.Report
Wonderful atmosphere for children to learn. Excellent balance of respect for the discipline and encouragement; and very supportive. Sensei Sandra is very good. The staff are very professional and friendly and the administrative processes are always handled with ease.Report
Our daughter started karate training at Okukan before lockdown and couldn't wait to get back into it after lockdown. The benefits have been more than physical. She's grown in confidence and is motivated by Sensei Sandra's calm ways. We feel like it's a really special place where her development is encouraged and supported. Thanks to Sandra and Meg for all they do.Report

OKUKAN is a modern Japanese martial arts school of Shitokai karate, based in Melbourne, Australia. We teach the authentic Shitoryu style of karate – one of the four main styles of karate in Japan – as originally founded by Master Kenwa Mabuni and later endorsed by the World Karate Federation (WKF). Our martial arts school has a challenging karate syllabus that includes over 50 forms and a large number of effective drills. Classes in our school are strongly influenced by Japanese Buddhism and warrior culture. OKUKAN is led by Sensei Sandra Contreras, who delivers high quality karate instruction six days a week. Our form of karate is government recognized in Australia, and our form of karate is internationally endorsed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). OKUKAN is affiliated to the World Karate Federation via its Australian representative, the Australian Karate Federation (AKF). This affiliation ensures our students learn modern martial arts that comply with international standards, and the latest developments and trends in sports karate. Our sport facility is served by public transport and is connected to safe cycle paths to help reduce CO2 emissions.
