I'll try to keep this as simple and straightforward as I know how. I am not one of those stories that begin with “ever since I can remember I had a camera in my hand.” I wish I could say that but I can't. I know, I know, the cool train just left the building. But, if you will…

My photography journey began a few years ago with a little Canon Rebel. I took my sister out with a friend of hers, in the bitter cold, only to realize I had no idea what I was doing. I knew nothing. To be honest, I question whether or not I even knew how to correctly focus an image. It didn't take long for me to realize I had fallen in love with something that I barely understood. It was a scary place to be, and it still can be.

When it comes to photography, I don't pretend to know everything, but I believe in what I've grown into. I've realized that there will always be the fear of “not good enough.” I've fought this to no end with the belief that the guys at the top have it figured out. They no longer doubt. They no longer criticize. They no longer fail.

Today, when that fear creeps in, as it inevitably does, I harness it. I let it in for a moment, and as it threatens every devastating failure I've ever let shake this dream, I redirect it, and I let it drive me to where I want to go and to who I want to become.

The truth is, I can't be helped. When I'm in the car listening to music, on a walk through the woods, or in my bed, eyes closed, ready to escape a stressful day, I go to one place, and that's behind my camera. I dream of beautiful moments, and photographs you'll never forget. Photographs that tell the story of the people who we love and love us back. Photographs that stop time. They are completely you and all your own.

It's been a few years since that cold day in the woods with my sister and every now and then I like to look back and remember where I started. I remember what ground zero felt like and what it took to get to the next level. And the next. Every session improving upon the last. Always refining, always advancing. I think, as an artist, the ultimate goal will always be to somehow achieve perfection. And although that day may never come, there will always be that spark inside of me that will dare to make that impossibility, possible.

Quite simply, this is what I love to do. More than that, it is a part of who I am. I will always be an artist. I will always dream. I will always create.

I give it all or nothing, and nothing just isn't an option.
