They have been serving the needs of over 4000 families and businesses in Allegheny, Washington, and Westmoreland counties since 1960. They are also one of the largest Erie insurance agencies in the area. We are currently celebrating our 50th anniversary in business!
The third generation family run agency was started in 1960 by Grandfather Dennis McElhinny. Son Richard McElhinny started with the firm in 1973 and is a boat coverage specialist. Richard brought his sons Timothy McElhinny CIC LUTCF into the agency in 1988, and Thomas McElhinny CIC LUTCF in 1989. They currently employ 7 full time licensed agents and a life insurance specialist. They are committed to maintaining a high standard of excellence in all that they do and to establishing a firm relationship of mutual trust and service with each of their clients. Simply stated - they treat individuals in the same manner as they like to be treated.

I have been with Tim for around 45 years now. I signed my first policy when I bought a boat back in 1975. Erie was one of the few companies that would sell speedboat insurance. (Can you believe that?) My present homeowners and vehicle insurance company refused to cover my ski boat!Report
I switched my home owners and vehicle insurance to Erie shortly after. Tim was great in reviewing my current policies and recommending what type of coverage I should have. Much to my surprise the price was cheaper than what I was paying from another company.
Since then Tim has helped with additional policies for all the toys I purchased as I moved forward in my life. ( Summer camp, Rental Property, 5 Quads, Pontoon, 2 Side by Sides and now our riverfront retirement home.
Fortunately I have had not had many claims, but the claims I did have, Tim assisted me in handling them quickly and professionally.
This year, Erie reduced the price of my policy due to Covid.
Through the years I have compared my policies with other insurance companies.
Erie was always the best.
While Erie Insurance always fit my needs, it was Tim's dedication and help that kept me with McElhinny Insurance.
