Growing up next to his parents' animal hospital, Dr. Timothy Scranton knew he wanted to pursue a career in medicine. But it wasn't until he failed the visual examination portion of the driver's test and met the local optometrist that his fate was sealed.

After attending Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, where he studied zoology/biology and psychology, he moved on to the State University of New York College of Optometry in New York City. After graduation, he joined an independent optometry practice in Alexandria, Va.

More than 20 years later, he joined EyeFit after working at United Optical in Maryland and Virginia for nearly 15 years. Throughout his career, Dr. Scranton has worked with a diverse patient base, and is able to conduct eye exams in Spanish.

“I love working with patients from all different backgrounds and helping them see this beautiful world more comfortably and clearly,” says Dr. Scranton. “It's also important to me that I'm able to preserve their eyesight for years to come so they can come back and tell me stories about their travel and life experiences.”

Dr. Scranton is licensed by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry, as well as licensed to use therapeutic pharmaceuticals. Of all his accomplishments, he is most proud that he's been able to help patients achieve a better quality of life for almost 25 years.

“I'm touched when a patient bursts into tears after picking up their new glasses, or when I receive a letter from a patient thanking me for making a difference in their world.”
