Corey Colmey is a sought after performer, educator and composer who has been fortunate enough to work in many diverse genres with artists such as Marc Seales, Don Grusin, Edan, Emanuel Agbeli, Abu Bakari, Rick Montalbano, Joe Magnarelli, Victoria Vox, Nancy Kelly, Brian O'Neal, Ronnie Leigh & Jeff Palmer. He has also appeared on many stages with famous artists such as D.J. Craze and Will Calhoun, and has also played the main stage at the historic Woodstock 99' Music Festival.
You can usually find Corey teaching out of his private lesson studio located inside his father's well known music store, Gary's Music.
His drumming can be heard in any style from jazz, rock, hip-hop, world, and in between. He has been studying and performing since he was a child and is an '01 graduate of Berklee College of Music. Corey has a Masters degree in Jazz & Commercial Drumset Performance, a B.A./B.M. in Jazz Studies, & a Professional Diploma in West African percussion. In addition to his studies, he has traveled to Ghana, West Africa, and studied traditional drumming at the Dagbe Cultural Institute.
Corey has a private teaching studio at Gary's Music, and is also on faculty at the YMCA Center for the Creative Arts, Herkimer County Community College, Mohawk Valley Community College, and Rome Art & Community Center. He is also active in local community centers in Oneida, Rome and Canastota NY. He teaches a variety of courses & ensembles with a focus on improvisation, composition, drumset & percussion pedagogy, world percussion & performance. In the past, Corey has been on faculty at North Shore Hebrew Academy in Great Neck, NY, Holy Cross Academy in Oneida, NY, and has been a guest clinician and instructor at Don Bennett Drum Studio in Seattle, WA.
