More About Cohen Orthodontics

Welcome to the office of Cohen Orthodontics- Dr. Barry D. Cohen DDS and Dr. Matthew J. Cohen DMD, MS, where we have provided orthodontic care since 1988. We realize that orthodontic treatment is a significant commitment and we will always strive to improve one's appearance, self confidence, and smile through our expertise in orthodontics. Our goal and focus is a commitment to a healthy dentition, functional bite, and beautiful esthetic appearance. We recently welcomed a new doctor to the practice this past July 2017, making Cohen Orthodontics a true family practice and environment.
Dr. Matthew J. Cohen, son of Dr. Barry D. Cohen, will be continuing the traditions, practice, and quality of care in orthodontics passed on from generation to generation. Dr. Barry D. Cohen is Board certified with the American Board Orthodontics and Dr. Matthew J. Cohen is Board eligible.
Dr. Cohen and Dr. Matt utilize the newest technology and techniques, research based methods and a kind, personal touch to provide the best orthodontic care for you and your family. With offices conveniently located in Dunwoody, Smyrna and Duluth GA, we will work with you every step of the way to assure your treatment is as relaxed, convenient and as rewarding as possible. We offer state-of-the-art materials and techniques such as Invisalign®, 3M Clarity clear brackets, Ormco Synthesis metal brackets, as well as other customized appliances to ensure you will receive optimum results in the most efficient manner. Additionally, Cohen Orthodontics now offers AcceleDent technologies for our patients, which has been clinically proven to reduce treatment time by 50% while helping reduce orthodontic discomfort. For our records and imaging, we offer high-resolution digital radiographs with a Sirona Orthophos X-ray machine (which assures very low radiation exposure) and a Canon G16 high-resolution digital camera for our record photographs. As for our patients receiving conventional orthodontic treatment, we also offer multiple retainer options including permanent bonded retainers and removable clear materials. We even let you design your own custom retainers and customize colors on your braces at every appointment! Throughout the entire treatment process, we ensure our specialty trained staff and doctors will provide a gentle hand and compassionate atmosphere for all types of patients including children, adolescents, and adults.
Are you looking for an alternative to braces with brackets and wires? For our patients interested in straightening their teeth with clear aligner technology (no brackets and wires attached to teeth), Cohen
Orthodontics is an elite provider of Invisalign, Invisalign Light, and Invisalign Teen in the Dunwoody, Smyrna and Duluth areas. Aligners are comfortable, hygienic, esthetic, with shortened appointments conveniently scheduled approximately every 8-10 weeks. Additionally, for patients interested in Invisalign treatment, we proudly offer I-Tero digital scanning technology for creating accurate digital models with 3D printing capabilities (no impression material for a more pleasant patient experience), faster treatment initiation (with 10x less patient case rejection), better fit of aligner trays (up to 7x greater), digitally simulated outcomes of our patients' cases, and custom retainers following every treatment.
For young children and adolescent patients, Dr. Cohen follows the American Association of Orthodontists' recommendation that children visit an orthodontist at the first sign of an orthodontic problem no later than age seven. At this stage of development, a child has enough permanent teeth to determine whether an orthodontic problem exists or is developing. The successful outcome of treatment is often dependent on timing of treatment and it is critical to treat a patient at his/her appropriate stage of development. The goal of early treatment is to correct the growth of the jaw and correct bite and crowding discrepancies. In addition, specific patients can also have an improvement in breathing issues with appliance therapy at the correct stage of development and treatment. Early treatment also helps accommodate all permanent teeth with healthy eruption, lessening the chance of extractions of healthy teeth in the future. Examples of orthodontic concerns that are sometimes corrected with early treatment include: severe crowding, habits (thumb sucking and tongue thrusting), open bite, deep bite, crossbite, large “overbite,” underbite, narrow jaws, and severely protruded front teeth (can create a higher chance for trauma and fracturing the front teeth). In addition we are focused to alleviating any concerns with self identity and awareness issues from poor dental appearance.
The easiest way to find out what your child needs is to schedule a complimentary new patient exam with Cohen Orthodontics. Our patients, parents and families can rest assured that our office is compliant with all the OSHA guidelines for sterilization and privacy guidelines as established by HIPAA. We work hard to make orthodontics affordable for you! Please call our office for your orthodontic needs at
770-394-0002. We will be happy to schedule you or your child for a complimentary orthodontic consultation. We look forward to working with you and creating a beautiful smile to last a lifetime!
