Best Overall Site

This was the most difficult category to define. The services out there are too varied to really compare. In a somewhat arbitrary decision, I chose to use the criteria of contribution. These sites have been the greatest contributors to the World Wide Web at large. They have hosted some of the most important, most pioneering services that we all use. You will find these sites represented in many of the other award categories.

As you view these sites, please look deeper than the pretty home page. The gems in these sites may be hidden, but they are worth it.

National Center for Supercomputing Applications

U. Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
The "second home" of the Web, NCSA has contributed more to the world than Mosaic. This site is also the home of What's New and a multitude of helpful documentation on contributing to and using the Web. It's so popular, they are trying to get fewer people to use it.
