The ideal coat color of a palomino horse is that of a newly minted gold coin, with an almost white mane and tail. This color is caused by the introduction of the creme dilute gene to a red based horse. The buckskin is a golden brown horse with a black mane and tail, caused by addition of the creme gene to bay.
