A Sufi Tariqa (order) that traces its history to Uways al-Qarani, a Yemeni convert to Islam at the time of the Prophet Muhammad. He was killed in 657 CE, fighting for Ali against Muawiyah in the Battle of Siffin.
Unlike other Sufi tariqas, for whom lineage (the transmission of a chain or silsila) is important as a measure of authority, the Oveyssi Tariqa is based on the guidance of an absent and invisible teacher.
