Rahab was a prostitute who lived in Jericho who assisted the Israelite spies sent by Joshua. In return, the spies promised that they would save her and her family when they invaded and instructed her to leave a sign on her home as a marker letting the soldiers know to avoid the house. She kept her word, hid the spies when the guard came looking for them, and they kept their word by sparing her and her family from harm when they invaded. Once Canaan was conquered, she left her career as a harlot and joined the Jewish people, becoming a married and honorable woman.
