Born in Egypt while the Israelites were enslaved, Joshua was the protege of Moses and one of the twelve spies who were sent to Canaan. He and Caleb were the only two who came back with encouraging reports. Moses chose him to succeed him as the leader of the Israelites and was the hero of the Battle of Jericho.
