Eve was created by God in the Garden of Eden to be the helpmate of Adam. She was tempted by the devil to taste fruit from the only tree God had told them not to eat from, and then she got Adam to taste it as well. The results were catastrophic. No more could they walk and talk with God, and they were cursed. It was this original sin that God promised to send a messiah to counteract.
