Philip the Evangelist was one of seven deacons who were chosen to take care of the poor of the Christian Church in Jerusalem. He performed miracles and preached the Gospel in Samaria, and he was the one responsible for converting Simon Magus and for baptizing the Ethiopian eunuch on the road between Jerusalem and Gaza, thereby essentially starting the Ethiopian Church.
