Onesimus was a slave belonging to Philemon of Colossae, who had been led to Christ by Paul. At some point during Paul's imprisonment, Onesimus became a runaway and somehow ended up meeting Paul, who led him, too, to the Lord. Onesimus is the subject of Paul's Letter to Philemon, in which he reconciles the two. The letter eventually caused Philemon to accept Onesimus as a brother and ultimately freed him of his slavery.
