Joseph Caiaphas was the Jewish high priest who was the chairman of the Sanhedrin when Jesus was put on trial. It was he who organized the hearing and accused Him of blasphemy and subsequently handed Him over to the Romans.

  • All About Archaeology: Caiaphas  - Presents the extrabiblical evidence that Caiaphas lived and was a Sanhedrin from 18 to 36 AD.
  • BBC: The Case Against Caiaphas  - Delves into Caiaphas's actions and motives for turning Christ over to the Romans to be killed.
  • Caiaphas  - Profiles Joseph Caiaphas, the Jewish high priest who was the chairman of the Sanhedrin when Jesus was arrested.
  • Joseph Caiaphas: In Search of a Shadow  - A 2005 lecture given at the University of Edinburgh addresses the fact that all of the Gospels suggest that Jesus had two trials, and the first one was before Caiaphas. It is pointed out that the initiative for Christ's arrest appears to have come directly from Caiaphas and his cohorts with Pilate's role being minimal and addresses the reason that Caiaphas's name is not better known than Pilate's.
