The First Book of Samuel is named after the last Judge and the first great prophet of Israel. It was written primarily by Samuel himself, but others also contributed to it. He anointed both Saul and David to be kings, and the first book of Samuel covers almost 100 years. It was written in the 10th Century B.C. and covers the period of time from the birth of Samuel to the death of Saul about the key truth, the Lord's anointed. The key verse is found in 13:14, "...the LORD has sought out a man after his own heart and appointed him leader of his people..."
