The first letter to Timothy was written in A.D. 64, at the end of Paul's life and expresses his concern about false doctrines which were being embraced by some new Christians. Paul was getting ready to hand his ministry over to others to pastor, and wanted to impart his instructions for order and internal operations of the local church. Timothy, the son of a Jewish mother and Greek father, was a constant companion and follower of Paul, and was the recipient of Paul's teaching in this letter abut the mystery of godliness, false teachers, and two verses which refer to Christ's glorious appearing and universal dominion.
