This letter, from the Apostle Peter, was directed to the Jewish and gentile Christians who were scattered all over the five Roman provinces. It is a tightly written "how-to" of godly living and biblical doctrine. It was written in about 65 A.D., when Nero was beginning his persecution of Christians, and this letter was to exhort Christians to remain strong and steadfast despite the tribulations that lay ahead of them. Obviously mindful of the suffering the saints would encounter, Peter writes about the divine preservation of the saints as well as salvation, the eternal endurance of the Word, and the second coming. It imparts spiritual instructions for husbands, wives, servants, youth, and godly leaders.
