Author Beverly Lewis was raised by a mother whose family are Old Order Mennonite, and her father was a Charismatic preacher of the Families of God church. She grew up in the Amish region of Lancaster County in Pennsylvania. She grew up with Plain friends. So it was natural that she write about them.
