Memorial Day, a federal holiday in the United States, is celebrated on the last Monday of May. It was originally known as Decoration Day and is a day set aside to remember American military men and women who died serving their country. It was originated to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War, and was expanded after World War I to include American casualties of all wars or military actions.
