The Constitution of the United States of America is the document which lays the very foundation for the government of the country. As such, it is the supreme law of the land. It lists the powers and duties of the federal government and lays out the balance of power, which is kept in check by the three separate branches of the government: the legislative branch, the judicial branch, and the executive branch. The branches are made up of the Congress which is made up of the House of Representatives and the Senate, the Supreme Court, and the President, respectively.
