In 1977 the Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft were launched to explore the outer solar system. Both spacecraft explored Jupiter and Saturn, and Voyager 2 went on to explore Uranus and Neptune. As they leave the solar system, they continue with the Voyager Interstellar Mission (VIM) to explore the outer region of the Sun's influence.
