Catastrophism refers to a belief or non-mainstream science line of thinking that the physical features and developments of earth's depths and surfaces were hugely influenced by sudden forceful events or catastrophes and cataclysms rather than by gradual processes such as tectonics, weathering, deposition, erosion, and transport.
