A disputed territory in eastern Moldova, on the banks of the River Dniester. It declared independence in 1990, and has been governed since then by the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR).

The nation is not recognized by international institutions or other nations, except by Abkhazia and South Ossetia, themselves unrecognized.

The Republic of Moldova considers PMR-controlled territories to be a part of Moldova.
