Lakeland College is a liberal arts college located in Sheboygan, was founded by German immigrants who were escaping religious troubles in Europe. They settled in the area in 1847 and in 1862, built Missionhaus, which was a college and seminary. For the first 95 years of its existence, it was known simply as Mission House. It was named Lakeland in 1956, and six years later, the seminary moved to Minnesota and left the college to occupy then entire complex.
