Radford University is a public university located in Radford, Virginia. It was founded in 1910 as a women's college but has been a coed campus since 1972 and a university since 1979. It was originally called the State Normal and Industrial School for Women at East Radford, but was renamed the State Teachers College at Radford in 1924. In 1943, it was renamed the Women's Division of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute. It experienced yet another name change in 1964, when it was known as Radford College. in 1979, when it received university status, it got the name it is now known as.
