Giles County was formed in 1806 from parts of Montgomery, Monroe, Tazewell, and Wythe counties. Named in honor of William Branch Giles, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1790 to 1815 and later Governor, the county is served by its county seat Pearisburg.
