A form of football which originated in England in the early 19th century, played with an oval-shaped ball; the ball may be played with the hands, and the game requires considerable physical contact between players.
Usually played with 15 men per side, although women's rugby and small-side versions (especially Rugby 7s) have become increasingly popular.
